China Telecom and ZTE release Cluster DRS at MWC 2024
China Telecom ZTE release Cluster DRS, which stands for Dynamic Radio Sharing, to facilitate digital development. Cluster DRS is an invention based on 5G-A that has developed a cluster predominantly focused on drones to ensure a smooth and deterministic user experience.
Barcelona, Spain, 26 February 2024
At today’s Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, ZTE Corporation (0763. HK / 000063.SZ), a primary global provider of information and communication technology solutions, has launched a 5G-Advanced solution called Cluster DRS (Dynamic Radio Sharing). This solution was developed in conjunction with China Telecom. This cutting-edge system makes it possible to share radio frequencies dynamically among base station clusters, which in turn helps to support the growth of the low-altitude tourism industry.
China Telecom ZTE release Cluster has led the charge in 5G innovation since 2019 when it was established. The world’s fifth and first 5G Standalone (SA) network. China Telecom has led over 28,000 industry application projects in energy, healthcare, education, smart cities, transportation, culture, and tourism and has installed over 9,000 specialized 5G networks. The company boasts over 318 million 5G customers.
China Telecom Remains Dedicated
Continued exploration of new business prospects and scenarios is a top priority for China Telecom, a pioneer in developing new information technology businesses. A key area of concentration is the economy at low altitudes. 5G coverage that is seamless and able to reach high altitudes is crucial if uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) are to fulfil their real-time and high-throughput needs.
The revolutionary Cluster DRS solution, developed in collaboration with China Telecom and ZTE, will propel the low-altitude economy’s large-scale development. This method brings the well-established notion of “Cluster” resource management into the realm of space. A 5G commercial network can dynamically create a cluster of base stations with configurable spatial beam-sharing schemes based on the drone’s flight path and service needs. With this, drones can keep their 4K video transmissions steady.
Ms Huang Lilian, Managing Director
“5G has become an important driving force of digital economy development,” stated China Telecom’s Network Development and Sharing Department. To keep up with the demands of emerging industries and market conditions, China Telecom is always looking for new and better ways to do things.
China Telecom has been working on solutions to improve the 5G user experience and increase network adaptability since 2021. The first solution, Cluster DSS, applies the Cluster concept to the frequency domain. The second solution, Cluster DFS, applies it to the time domain. By bringing the ‘Cluster’ idea to the spatial realm today, we can facilitate the digital growth of the low-altitude. Economy and back 5G commercial networks’ low-altitude three-dimensional coverage.
Mr. Zhang Wanchun, Senior Vice President at ZTE, introduced,
We focus on building a solid digital foundation as we go deeper into 5G innovation applications. To handle the demands of digital and intelligent development in new industries and situations. This includes integrating efficient 5G networks with big data and intelligence. To maximize the value of 5G networks and maximize their limited wireless resources while improving the user experience. ZTE employs RAN native AI to enable adaptive radio resource adjustment, including spectrum, frame structure, power, and beams.
Cluster DRS is at the forefront of the change from cell-centric to user-centric network resource regulations, which paves the way for 6G technology and the collaborative development of the low-altitude economy. To create a digital, intelligent, and environmentally friendly future. ZTE and China Telecom will keep working together to implement new practices and support the development of 5G-advanced applications.
